Phew, Matthew’s gone!
Jamaica was this week spared the wrath of Matthew as the Category 4 Hurricane slid through the Mona Passage east of the island and on Tuesday slammed into neighbouring Haiti. However, preparation in western Jamaica, as in other sections of the island, was on point.
1 – Shoppers at a supermarket in the Fairview Shopping Centre in Montego Bay stock up on food supplies last Friday, ahead of the passage of Hurricane Matthew.
2 – The popular Trelawny Parish Council operated-Burwood Beach near Falmouth, was closed on Sunday and Monday as the parish prepared for the passage of Hurricane Matthew.
3 – Heavy-duty equipment loads a truck with silt during the cleaning of a section of the South Gully in Montgo Bay on the weekend, as part of the preparations to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Matthew.
4 – Member of Parliament for St James North West Dr Horace Chang (second left), makes a point to Prime Minister Andrew Holness (third left), during a tour of sections of the critical South Gully in the resort city of Montego Bay on Saturday, while other members of the touring party look on.
5 – Residents of Shrewsbury Logwood remove debris from a section of the problematic Sandy Gully in the community on the weekend.
