Clarendon College join inter-zone qualifiers
SPALDING, Clarendon — With the withdrawal of Claude McKay High from Zone H of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition, former winners Clarendon College will join the six schools that have qualified for the inter-zone round.
According to the competition rules, given that Claude McKay withdrew after playing just five of their scheduled 10 first-round games, or 50 per cent, all their results would be declared null and void.
Despite losing three points and 13 goals from their first-round meeting, Clarendon College, who came from a goal down to beat Lennon High on Saturday, have won all six games played and lead on 18 points and cannot finish lower than second place in Zone H.
Thompson Town are second on 12 points, also from six games, followed by Lennon High on seven points from five games. Knox College are on four points from seven games and Edwin Allen on two points from five games played.
Clarendon College would join Cornwall College from Zone A, Manchester High and Mile Gully from Zone F, Dinthill Technical from Zone K, Garvey Maceo from Zone M, and Vere Technical from Zone N.
Meanwhile, Spot Valley High are awaiting a ruling from ISSA that could see them losing all their points earned so far after using a player that had not missed a game after he was red-carded late in their opening game.
In their first game against Herbert Morrison Technical, a Spot Valley High player was red-carded and sat out the next game against Holland High.
The game against Holland High was, however, called off after less than 10 minutes as the visiting Spot Valley High team protested the absence of uniformed security personnel.
Under ISSA and FIFA rules, however, the fixture against Holland could not technically be considered a game and so the player did not miss a game, thus Spot Valley could lose all the games they played in, each by a 3-0 margin.
It was also heard that they could lose the point form the 3-3 draw against Herbert Morrison as a number of players who took part in the game did not have ISSA identification cards, which are mandatory.
