Clarendon College make it five-in-a-row
CHAPLETON, Clarendon — Clarendon College moved clear at the top of Zone H of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition after winning their fifth straight game yesterday, blanking Knox College 4-0 in their return-round game played at Clarendon College.
The former winners joined three other schools — Cornwall College, Dinthill Technical and Garvey Maceo — as schools that have won their first five games in the competition.
Thompson Town upset Lennon High 1-0 to move into second place behind Clarendon College on 12 points, two more than Lennon High who have a game against Clarendon College in hand.
Thompson Town avenged their first-round 5-0 loss to Lennon High, who were losing for the first time all season.
Holmwood Technical were also on the wrong end of an upset, going down 1-2 to Alston High in Zone G and remain tied on points with leaders Spalding High, who edged Christiana High 1-0.
Holmwood Technical had won their first-round game against Alston 1-0 as they won their first two games of the season.
In Zone C, Reno Edmondson and Courtney Chisholm both scored twice as Spot Valley High eased their way to a 4-0 win over Holland High and retake the lead on goal difference over Cedric Titus High.
Spot Valley scored twice early in the first half, then added a third midway the second half before a late goal settled the points as they improved to 11 points from five games with Cedric Titus playing one game more. Lennox Taylor scored four goals as Brimmer Vale romped to a 5-0 win over Iona High in Zone J and jumped two places into second place on nine points.
St Mary High are still in front however, on 13 points, after edging Tacky High 1-0.
