Clarendon College hunt fifth-straight win
CHAPLETON, Clarendon — Former champions Clarendon College will seek to join three other former winners in winning their first five games as they take on Knox College in a Zone H return-round game as the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Sports Association/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition continues today with 12 rescheduled games.
Cornwall College, Dinthill Technical and Garvey Maceo High have all won their first five games to lead their respective zones, while Vere Technical High and Seaforth have also won five games, but have played six matches.
While Clarendon College are yet to face Lennon High in the first round, the game having been postponed until October 3, they have won all four games played so far while scoring 23 goals, the most by any team.
The Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached Clarendon College beat Knox College 5-1 in the first round and should be able to extend their winning start against Knox, who have won just once all season.
Lennon High will hope to create some space from Thompson Town, who trail them by a point and are seeking a second win this year after a big 5-0 win in the first round.
Spot Valley High and Holland will hope to finish their second- round game after the first-round game was called off due to lack of security and is still to be rescheduled.
Spot Valley are tied in second place in Zone C with Muschett High on eight points, three behind Cedric Titus, but Spot Valley have played four games, two less than the other two.
Petersfield will seek to end a two-game winless run when they take on Maud McLeod in a game that was washed out on Saturday, as they seek to get back in contention for an Inter-zone spot.
Petersfield have dropped to fourth place in a three-way tie on seven points and are well behind leaders Godfrey Stewart High, who are on 15 points and appear to be heading to zone honours.
The unbeaten Spalding High on 13 points lead Holmwood Technical by a point in Zone G, and both will be seeking to stay at the top when they take on Christiana High and Alston, respectively.
Both won their first-round games 1-0.
