Guardian Life junior tennis tourney gets under way today
JAMAICA’S top age group boys and girls players are expected to participate in the second series of the Guardian Life Open Tennis Championship, which will continue this Saturday and Sunday at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston, starting at 9:00 am on both days.
Tournament director, Llockett McGregor said, the Guardian Life Open Junior Tennis Championships is the final event of the two-part series that continues to contribute to the development of junior players throughout the island.
“We are hoping to see the top junior players in the island participating in what promises to be another competitive and entertaining championships to close off the series,” McGregor said.
He said many of the players will come from the high schools and prep schools, such as Immaculate Conception, Wolmer’s High, Ocho Rios High, SOS Village from Montego Bay, Hillel Academy, Campion College, Liberty Academy, and Holy Childhood High.
Boys and girls will compete in 18 and under, 16 and under, 14 and under and 12 and under age categories.
Some of the top junior players expected to participate are Cliff Dwyer, Damani Cain, Kyle Martin, Daniel Hill, Myles Harrison, Shae-Ann Kameka, Selena Blythe, Shaeda Nickle, Michael Stephens, Cobi Wilcott, Ryan Cox, Ruben Pinchas, Moesha Fox, Hayley McNair, John Azar Jr, Daniel Azar, Cole McNair, Alyssa James, Giselle Sang, Alessi Freckleton, Selena Bird, Jenna Harrison and many others.
McGregor said, in addition to trophies and prizes, the winners in each category will also receive points towards their national ranking.
