Impressive Vere go 5-straight in daCosta Cup
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Former champions Vere Technical became the first team to win their first five games this season after blanking Central High 4-0 in their Zone N Inter-Secondary School Sports Association ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday.
Garrington Baker scored twice for the nine-time champions as six other schools, including former champions Cornwall College, St James High, Dinthill Technical, and Garvey Maceo, also won their fourth-straight game as the first round nears an end.
Yesterday’s round of matches was affected by rain and lightning with a number of games being postponed, including all three in Zone E which will be played today starting at 1:00pm.
Also, 15 games, 12 of which were rescheduled, will be played today with Clarendon College and Port Antonio High both going after their fourth-straight win.
Fresh from their 13-0 demolition of Claude McKay on Tuesday, Clarendon College take on Thompson Town in a Zone H top-of-the-table clash.
Clarendon College have beaten Thompson Town all 20 times they have met since 2005, conceding six goals over the span and just one in their last five meetings.
Port Antonio High won Zone L last year and appears well on their way to retaining it after winning their first three games, and will play away to Happy Grove, who are on three points, this afternoon.
Glenmuir High will seek to rebound from their loss to Garvey Maceo on the weekend when they travel to face Denbigh High, the only team that was able to hold them in the group last year.

In Zone D, Petersfield High have lost two games already, the same number they lost in the zone all of last year, and are in fourth place, and will be away to the unbeaten Little London, who are two places above them.
Leaders Godfrey Stewart will be home to Maud McLeod and could extend their lead with a fourth win in five starts.
Yesterday, Nathan Hunter and Damani Miller also scored for Vere Technical as they improved to 15 points at the top of Zone N, ahead of Kemps Hill who beat Bustamante High 3-1.
In Montego Bay, Shavon McDonald scored his first two daCosta Cup goals to lead Cornwall College to a 4-0 won over Maldon High.
