17 rescheduled daCosta Cup games on today
JUNCTION, St Elizabeth — Manchester High and BB Coke, both with perfect win records after two rounds, will meet in Junction today as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta cup schoolboy football competition continues with 17 rescheduled games.
Sixteen games were rescheduled from Saturday due to the lack of sufficiently qualified officials to take over the originally scheduled 40 plus games, while one — Maggotty High and Munro College in Zone E — will be a continuation of a game that was called off after 30 minutes last Wednesday, due to a waterlogged field.
Five schools, including BB Coke and Manchester High, will be seeking to extend their perfect win record to three straight games as Mile Gully, also in Zone F, Marcus Garvey Technical in Zone I and Denbigh High in Zone M are also seeking to stay perfect.
BB Coke moved back to Zone F this year after playing in Zone E for the last two seasons and will be seeking their first win against Manchester High, who have dominated their meetings.
Manchester High lead on goal difference after comfortable 5-1 and 4-0 wins, but BB Coke have yet to concede a goal in their two games played so far.
Mile Gully, who just missed qualifying for the Inter-zone round by a point last year, are also going for their third straight win and will be away to Cross Keys who have scored just once in their two games played so far.
The Barry Watson-coached Mile Gully have not lost to Cross Keys in their last six outings and hammered them 8-0 in the second game last season. they have got off the fast start, winning both games with a 4-0 aggregate.
Marcus Garvey Technical have won both games played so far by 1-0 margins but their opponents today, York Castle, have yet to score in their two games played so far.
Romario Garvey has scored both goals for Marcus Garvey Technical so far and will be hoping to continue his scoring run.
Denbigh High could join Garvey Maceo in the lead in Zone M on nine points with a win over Porus today, and jump ahead of Glenmuir High in the points’ tables.
Porus are one of three teams in the six-team zone that have yet to score a goal and have lost their games by a combined 15-0.
Meanwhile, Munro College, who last won the daCosta Cup 52 years ago, will seek back to back wins when they pick up where they left off last Wednesday at Maggotty High.
The game was tied at 0-0 when it was called off in the 30th minute and ISSA has ruled that the final 60 minutes will be played today.
Munro are coming off a 1-0 win over a good Lacovia High team on Saturday, while Maggotty went down 1-0 to defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School.
Both teams won at home last season and this will give Maggotty hope as they seek their first win of the season.
Petersfield High could retake the lead on goal difference in Zone D when they take on Grange Hill at home and are looking to join Godfrey Stewart High on nine points each.
Petersfield’s only hiccup so far was a 1-0 reversal at Godfrey Stewart and they face a Grange Hill team also seeking to move up into contention in the group.
A number of schools will be hunting their first wins today including Anchovy High against Maldon in Zone A and Knockalva Technical against Green Island in Zone B.
