Portland derby to be played under lights
Port Antonio, Portland — The ISSA/FLOW Zone L daCosta Cup game between rivals Titchfield High and Port Antonio High will be played under lights today at Lynch Park, starting 7:00 pm.
This will be the first daCosta Cup night game in the east.
Port Antonio have a record of getting by their arch-rivals over the years and will start favourites having won their two outings so far, while Titchfield lost their only game, with the other rescheduled for some time next week.
Titchfield’s coach Renault Tomlinson is looking forward to the game. “We had a dress rehersal Tuesday that went well; the surface is good and the experience was good, also, as we played against the St George’s team that was in training.
“Despite giving up three points against Fair Prospect we are not fearful, and the boys just need to apply themselves. It is for us to come and show what we are made of. No one is giving us anything and we have to go for it and get it. Port Antonio is on a high sitting on top of the zone and we just have to make it happen,” Tomlinson told the Jamaica Observer.
Marlon Hylton, who has taken over duties at Port Antonio since last year, is also confident. “This is a historic game, the Port Antonio derby, and it is a great experience for the boys going out under the lights. It is a good effort by the two schools and St George’s Sports Club to give permission for this game to be played under lights. We are confident and ready to go and will take this game as just another game as we seek to go on top of the zone,” he said.
