SPALDING, Manchester — Former champions Vere Technical, as well as Kemps Hill, Spalding High and Paul Bogle High ran their respective records to three wins in a row as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition continued yesterday.
Thorne Simpson scored Spalding High’s lone goal in their top of the zone meeting with Holmwood Technical and took over the sole leadership of Zone G.
Romario Kelly scored his fifth goal of the season, and Everald Stewart got the other as Paul Bogle High edged Yallahs High 2-1 in Zone O.
Robert Lightbourne’s good start was halted at two wins after they were outscored 3-2 by Seaforth High, who moved past them into second place with seven points to six.
Vere Technical blanked Old Harbour High 2-0 in their Zone N game, but Kemps Hill stayed tied with the former champions on points with a 1-0 win over Central High.
Meanwhile, defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and four other schools all kept their record perfect with their second wins.
Jovoney Brown and Romeo Wright were on target for STETHS as they got by Newell 2-1, while Lacovia High smashed Black River High 6-0 with Leo Stevenson scoring four times and Oshane Staple and Kevaughn Genus getting the other goals.
There is a three-team jam at the top of Zone F, with all on nine points. Manchester High were 4-0 winners over DeCarteret College in Zone F with Marcel Holness scoring twice, while BB Coke kept pace with a 2-0 win over Cross Keys High. Mile Gully beat Belair 3-0 in the other game.
Marcus Garvey Technical also won their second game on the trot, clipping Brown’s Town High 1-0.

Herbert Morrison scored a big 5-1 win over Muschett High in Montego Bay after consecutive draws with Brandon Daley scoring twice in their Zone C game.
Spot Valley High were 2-0 winners over Cedric Titus, who are crying foul, arguing that the winners used a player who was given a red card earlier in the season.
The player was sent off in Spot Valley’s opening game and did not play in their game against Holland High on Tuesday that was called off due to the lack of police personnel at Holland.
In Zone D, Petersfield High rebounded from their loss to Godfrey Stewart with a 3-0 win over Manning’s School, while Godfrey Stewart were edged 2-1 by Little London High.
Horace Clarke High (formerly Islington) got their first win of the season, beating Iona High, who had won their first two games, 4-0 at Iona, while St Mary High also got their first win, tagging St Mary Technical 2-0.
Oracabessa and Fair Prospect were also first-time winners, beating Happy Grove High 2-1 and Titchfield High 1-0, respectively, in Zone L.
