Big wins recorded in daCosta Cup
LUCEA, Hanover — Former champions Rusea’s High School will make their belated entry to the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition today when they host Green Island High at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea in a Zone B game.
Rusea’s High’s opening was one of seven games rescheduled from yesterday as defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) will lead five teams that are going after their second successive wins.
Yesterday, nine other schools won their second-successive game led by Lennon High, who demolished Claude McKay High 8-0 with three players scoring two goals.
Dinthill Technical were, 6-0 winners over Guys Hill High Clarendon College, Garvey Maceo High and Glenmuir High all scored 4-0 wins, while Cornwall College scored a 3-0 win over Irwin High.
Today, STETHS are coming off a big 10-1 win over Black River High on Saturday and will take on Newell High, who they have beaten the last six times the teams met.
Jovoney Brown and Romeo Wright are expected to lead the STETHS attack today after both got three goals each on Saturday.
Also in Zone E, Maggotty High will hope lightning can strike twice as they host Munro College, who they beat at home last year.
Lacovia High will hope to replicate the good season they had last year when they play away to Black River in the first meeting between the teams in about four years. Manchester High, Mile Gully and BB Coke will also be seeking wins in Zone F.
Manchester High beat Cross Keys High 5-1 on Monday and will face deCarteret College today, Mile Gully face Belair, while BB Coke host Cross Keys.
Meanwhile, yesterday, at James Hill, Kwesi Watt, Tavis Grant and Fitzroy Cummings all scored twice for Lennon High in their big win over Claude McKay High to lead Zone H on goal difference over Clarendon College.
Orane Grant and Christopher Randall also scored yesterday; their second goals of the season.
Clarendon College also won, beating Edwin Allen High 4-0 to set up a mouth-watering clash against Lennon on Saturday.
Dinthill Technical continue to cruise, blasting Guy’s Hill 6-0 with Alwayne Harvey scoring twice, while Antonio Roberts, Javon Pryce, Richard Reeves and an own goal accounted for the others.
Ewarton also won their second game, edging Bog Walk 1-0.
The top three teams in Zone M all won a second-straight game, as Gavin Roberts bagged a hat-trick for Garvey Maceo in their 4-0 win over Winston Jones High; Glenmuir High beat Porus by the same margin, while Denbigh were 2-0 winners over Foga Road.
Michael Heaven scored twice for Cornwall College to take his tally to three in the season as they blanked Irwin High 3-0 at Cornwall College with Giovanni Reid getting his first goal of the season.
St James High edged Anchovy High 1-0, thanks to a late goal by Tyrique Clarke.
