High hopes
Western Jamaica teams participating in the 2016 ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football competition all have high expectations for the season as the tournament kicks off this Saturday with 23 games across the island.
Twenty-three of the record 88 schools taking part in the competition are from western Jamaica and will play in four zones, A-D, and all should start their quest for the title between Saturday and Wednesday.
On Saturday, Cornwall College with a record 11 titles, will meet Anchovy High in the third game of the triple-header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex at 7:00pm. The games will serve as the official start of the competition.
Manning Cup champions Jamaica College will start the season off when they take on St Andrew Technical at 2:45pm, while daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical face Black River High at 5:00pm.
Cedric Titus, who moved from Zone I to Zone C for the first time in the 12 years they have been in the competition, will host Holland High in Clark’s Town, Trelawny.
Four western schools, including former champions St James High and Rusea’s High, along with Petersfield High and Mannings School, advanced to the quarter-finals last year.
Petersfield High and Mannings, both from Zone D, will open their accounts on Saturday, St James High will play their first game on Monday, while Rusea’s play their opening game on Wednesday.
