Dacosta Cup coaches on the move ahead of kick-off
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — There will be a few old faces in new places on Saturday when the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup schoolboy football season gets underway across 13 parishes.
At least nine coaches have relocated in the off-season and will be calling the shots on different side-lines this season, setting up some interesting meetings later on in the race for top honours.
Andrew Edwards, the national Under-17 coach and who last coached at Munro College, is the new man at Manchester High, replacing the much travelled Donovan Duckie.
David Delisser, another coach who has made the rounds at several schools and club teams, will be in charge at Cedric Titus High replacing long-serving Wade Crawford who has taken over at York Castle.
At least Crawford will not have to coach against his old team in the first round, as Cedric Titus have been shifted from Zone I to Zone C, an eclectic mixture of teams from Trelawny and St James.
Anthony ‘Follies’ Williams, who served his alma mater Rusea’s High for over 20 years, is the new man at Irwin High and will bring his wealth of experience to a team that has always struggled for consistency.
Lynval ‘Palla’ Wilson, who has moved between schools in Westmoreland and Clarendon, will be calling the shots at Spalding High in Manchester this season.
Sheldon Davis, who was at Manchester High for several seasons, replaces Dave Anderson at Holmwood Technical, allowing the latter to focus full time on the girls’ track and field team.
Leacroft Lettman spent just one season at William Knibb before taking over at Herbert Morrison Technical and will be replaced by Cassman Williams, who is returning to his alma mater after at least two previous stints at the Martha Brae school.
Dane Randall, who had replaced Hector Wright at Herbert Morrison, moves to take over Holland High who are returning to the competition after a two-year absence.
