Ready for back-to-school
Over the past few weeks there have been a number of activities across western Jamaica to assist parents as they prepare their children for the start of the 2016/2017 academic year which, for many, begins next week.
The Jamaica Observer West brings you highlights:

A representative gathering of the 74 students who were successful in the GSAT exams and whose parents work with the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) in Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland and St James. with them are (from left) Winston Clarke of IGL; human resource director at the WRHA, Coleen Ricketts-Evans; member of the board of directors of the WRHA, Sheona Muschett and regional director, WRHA, Dr Ken-Garfield Douglas, after receiving a total of just under $750,000 in gift certificates on Tuesday at the Cornwall Regional Hospital. The gift certificates, which are tenable at bookstores in the four parishes, were made available in partnership with IGL and are intended to give encouragement to the workers as they prepare their children to enter high school for the first time when the new academic year begins next week.

The treat was the most recent event of more than 20 years of treats hosted by the resort for the team members’ children. Approximately 300 children benefited from this activity, which featured a magic show, face- painting, balloon art and juggling, quiz competitions and the distribution of back-to-school supplies such as bags, notebooks and geometry sets.
