Education minister to address nation tonight
Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid will be updating the nation on developments under the Education System Transformation Programme and the ministry’s Modernisation Programme in a televised broadcast tonight.
“The minister will also use the broadcast to share his vision for the country’s education system,” a news release from the ministry said.
The broadcast, which will air days before the beginning of the 2016/2017 school year, comes amidst heightened discussions regarding the performance of the country’s secondary level students in the June sitting of the various external examinations.
“Among other things, the education minister will be providing details on the re-engineering of the ministry,” the release added. “Through the re-engineering, the new-look structure will feature a policy ministry as well as operational arms, some of which have already been introduced. The re-engineering, which is being done through the Education System Transformation Programme, is aimed at achieving a more effective, more efficient, and a more accountable education system.”
Reid will also use the address to highlight plans to address teacher quality, the performance of schools, as well as capacity building for educational leaders, the release stated, adding that the broadcast is scheduled for 8:30 pm on
TVJ and at 9:00 pm onCVM.
