Johvae Moo — TEEN, make-up artist and aspiring entrepreneur
“Make-up is not just a look, it’s the feeling you get when you’ve seen your best you.” This is the belief of the young make-up artist, Johvae Moo.
18-year-old Johvae Moo has been honing her beauty skills for the past four years. Moo also focuses on her studies, as she is also pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Recently,
teenBOSS (TB) spoke with Johvae (
JM) in order to further understand her ambitions and achievements.
TB: What inspired you to pursue this career path?
JM: After years of obsessing over the art, then came my fifth form graduation picture-taking day. I had my makeup professionally done for the first time. It was the best version of me I had ever seen. The sight was tear-jerking; I absolutely fell in love with it. So much so that I had convinced myself that this is my passion. This is something I wouldn’t mind doing every day, let alone forever.
TB: What has been your most fulfilling experience thus far in your career as a make-up artist?
JM: The most fulfilling part about my makeup journey is experiencing that moment when I get to see my clients’ reaction to their ‘new-glow’. It allows me to recall my first moment seeing myself in professional makeup.
TB: What are your long term life-goals?
JM: In the next decade,
GlowByJo, the name of my brand/ company, should be fully built and at the peak of success. I would have already launched a sister brand/ company carrying organic makeup and skincare products. I also intend to start a spa, while effectively contributing toward increasing Jamaica’s GDP with my many other brilliant business ideas (most of which I haven’t thought of as yet). I will complete my BSc in entrepreneurship at the UWI, graduate with honours and pursue my masters in marketing abroad. If a wedding, marriage and children are meant to be, then it will happen. I have no intention of rushing that aspect of my life.
TB: What/ Who has been your greatest motivation to keep going?
JM: Honestly, God, my father and the love I have for myself has been my source of strength. My decision to keep pressing through, along with my father’s realistic, logical advice, love & sacrifice. Plus, God reminds me that all things are possible once He’s in it.
