The Complete Racing Guide shares the comments of some of the winners on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
Owned and trained by Carl Anderson and ridden by Andre Powell, New Star Vista won the first race over 1,820 metres by over a length. Powell said: “I had this as a soup. He ran two good races on higher claiming tags before, so dropping down in class, I knew that we would be hard to beat. Unbreakable was on back-to-back wins, so I was not going to make him get away from me.”
Natashadontplay, trained by Uton Stewart and ridden by Javaniel Patterson, won the fourth race over 1,800 metres by over four lengths. Stewart said: “I am very much satisfied with the victory today (Saturday). We had placed her in a five straight race the last time out and she ran pretty well, just beaten by a length by a colt and she came out of the race healthy and so we decided to take her to the sea and thing and train her lightly because she was well within herself. She ran a good time of 1:41:0 minutes.”
The Anthony Smith-trained El Cliente, under Bebeto Harvey, won the fifth race over 1,100 metres by half a length. Harvey said: “Turning for home, it seemed like he just broke from the starting gates. He kept on going and I just kept on riding him and we ended up winning the race.”
Prince Sammo, under Jevvanne Erwin, won the seventh race over 1,000 metres round. After the race Erwin said: “To be honest, the race was not difficult to ride. He just ran three times in his career before today (Saturday) and that was among better rivals than these, so I knew that he was capable of winning here. We got a good break and just took over the lead at the top of the lane and from there on it was just us.”
Linton Steadman, who rode He’sthereal Links to victory in the ninth and final event over 1,500 metres said: “Based on back class, this horse is better than these, and based on his last run when finishing a close fourth, he had most of the field behind him, so I was confident that he would win. We broke well, I kept him close to the pace and asked him for everything up the lane and he gave me.”
