Tourism a key part of Ja’s growth strategy — Holness
Prime MinisterAndrew Holness has assured local and international tourism investors of the government’s support for the continued development of the sector.
He noted that tourism is a key part of the national growth strategy and is a priority area of focus.
“Tourism, being such a major part of our gross domestic product (GDP), would be the obvious place to start in growing the economy,” he said at a meeting with the investment partners at the Office of the Prime Minister, yesterday.
Holness said his vision is to realise “a doubling of our tourism firms, an expansion in our tourism product and an expansion in our tourism market”.
“My job, therefore, is to support firms to grow, support the innovation of products and use foreign policy to expand markets,” he said.
The prime minister noted that the meeting was convened to hear the concerns of tourism players and to see how the Government can continue “to help your firms to grow, facilitate the innovation in the marketplace, and how we can make new markets (develop)”.
The investors were also updated on various projects and plans to grow the sector.
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who was in attendance, stressed the importance of partnership among stakeholders in the development of the tourism industry.
