A fast break
THE massive field of 140 racers that showed up on Sunday for the National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) Supligen Drag Challenge #3 at Vernamfield, Clarendon, had their session interrupted as Mother Nature put a damper on the event’s race programme.
“Despite our best efforts, the three-hour delay caused by the rainfall left insufficient time for completion of all elimination rounds,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told Auto.
Racing would resume after the NDRC pushed resources to the limit to get things back on track, including getting random groups of vehicles to do laps to aid drying out the quarter-mile track. However, the race stewards had to bring things to a halt due to the fading light.
However, before the event’s conclusion things were more exciting. Participants were lined up back-to-back, creating a constant stream of races with minimal disruption. For those that had braved the weather to watch this, they were delighted with the action. The extra focus could also be seen in the drivers as they put on their best, in hopes that they would get down to the finals before nightfall.
“All racers in eliminations will be advised of award presentation arrangements,” said Gunter.
