Former J’can sprinters to represent Bahrain in Rio
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Andrew Fisher and Kemarley Brown who transferred allegiance from Jamaica to Bahrain will be eligible to run the 100m at the Olympic Games after all.
In the latest issue of the IAAF newsletter published online this morning, both men had their period of eligibility amended to an earlier date, which would allow them to take part in the 100m that starts on August 13th.
Fisher’s eligibility will start on August 9th and Brown’s a day later.
They were among three athletes including Rise Chelimo (who transferred from Kenya to Bahrain) who had their eligibility amended according to the list published.
Initially, the men would have only been eligible to take part in the men’s 4x100m relays that starts later in the competition.
Meanwhile, there were six transfers listed that include Jamaicans. A total of four athletes transferred to Jamaica, all of who were named in the provisional list to take part in the Rio Olympics.
Long jumper Aubre Smith and hammer thrower Daina Levy transferred from Canada while 200m runner Kali Davis-White and 400m hurdler Leah Nugent transferred from the USA.
