Marvadene Anderson returns for Sunshine Girls
Jamaica’s former Under-16 netball player Marvadene Anderson will rejoin the national set-up with a view of playing for the Sunshine Girls later this year.
Anderson, who arrived in the island on Tuesday night, joined the team for a training session yesterday, as she resumed her relationship with netball after playing basketball in the United States for several years.
The world’s tallest sportswoman last played for Jamaica in 2009 in the regional Jean Pierre tournament. Playing at home, Jamaica won the tournament handsomely.
The 23-year-old was happy to be home and is looking forward to playing for the Sunshine Girls.
“[I am] looking to getting back in the groove of netball. Some of my teammates from 2009 are still playing, so it will be good to be playing with them again and to represent Jamaica,” said Anderson.
Meanwhile, Paula Daley, President of Netball Jamaica, welcomed the player home and is also looking forward to great prospects from her in the netball circle again.
“I am happy that Marvadene is back to be a part of the Sunshine Girls. She is expected to join forces with Romelda Aiken and Jhanelle Fowler-Reid in the shooting circle and to give Jamaica greater strength in this area. It will take some adjustment from basketball but I do not see any major issues there,” Daley noted.
