Jamaica 4th in Regional Golf Championship
The Jamaica team is hanging on to fourth position overall after yesterday’s second day of the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships being held at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
The event has been challenging for the Jamaicans, who are vying for top honours in the 60-year-old championship.
The Hoerman Cup side played some impressive golf halfway into the four-day event which showcases the Caribbean’s best golfers. Ian Facey finished the day with 72, one stroke above yesterday’s 71. Jonathan Newnham shaved two shots off Tuesday’s round, moving from 74 to 72. Zandre Roye also bettered his first day score by four shorts, ending today with 75 strokes. William Knibbs finished this round on 74, after his first day score of 82. The combined score of 597 puts Jamaica behind Puerto Rico (571), Dominican Republic (573) and Trinidad & Tobago (581).
The two female juniors in the George Teale competition shone in this round. Tiana Cruz is in sixth position overall in a field of 25 competitors, after shooting 77 and 79. Kei Harris had scores of 82 and 78, which places her in tenth position in the ladies category. The ladies lie fifth on 316 behind Puerto Rico (286), Trinidad & Tobago (314) and the Dominican Republic and United States Virgin Islands, who are tied in third place on 315.
