Sia and Sean Paul end Drake’s run at #1
In a surprise move Sia and Sean Paul have dethroned 6god Drake and taken the coveted top spot of Billboard’s Hot 100 song list. This is Sia’s first time on the throne as an artiste (she co-wrote Rihanna’s number one hit
Diamonds back in 2012) but this is nothing more than a triumphant return to number one for Jamaican-born and bred Sean Paul.
The hit collab
Cheap Thrills steadily climbed charts, quickly became a radio hits playlist favourite since it’s release in February and has now ended
One Dance‘s 10-week long run in the top spot. This is Sean Paul’s first Hot 100 number one in about a decade, following hits like Get Busy,
Temperature and his feature on Beyoncé’s
Baby Boy.
Billboard reports that he has ended the longest break from the top spot by any one artiste on the chart (10 years and four months) since Dr. Dre went 12 years, two months and three weeks between
No Diggity, by Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre, in 1996, and
Crack a Bottle, his collab with Eminem and 50 Cent, in 2009.
It’s pretty nice seeing a Jamaican at number one of one of the world’s most established music charts. Congrats, Sean Paul!
