Bicknell stars as Caribbean Junior Tennis Champs continue
Jamaica’s Blaise Bicknell easily knocked out his compatriot Jordan Luck in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in the boys’ 18-and-under singles at the 2016 Blue Mountain Caribbean Junior Tennis Championships being held at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston yesterday.
Top-seeded Bicknell hardly broke a sweat as he dominated his opponent throughout.
In other boys’ 18-and -under matches played, unseeded Louis Gaynor of Jamaica knocked out third- seeded Daniel Hill of Jamaica in straight sets 6-4, 6-1; Luke Quaynor of Jamaica was too strong for Kimel Williams of Antigua and Barbuda, crushing his opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Daniel Chatani of Jamaica beat Ruben Pinchas of Jamaica 6-4, 7-5; Callum Theaker of the Cayman Islands knocked out fourth seed Jason Lawson of Jamaica in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
In the lone girls’ 18-and- under singles played yesterday, Hayley McNair defeated Kobi Walcott in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the second round.
Meanwhile, in girls’ 16-and-under singles, Emma Dibbs of Jamaica defeated compatriot Moesha Fox 6-1, 6-2.
Results of boys’ 14-and- under singles: Alexander Bicknell of Jamaica beat his countryman Chad Charles 6-2, 6-1, while Damani Cain, also of Jamaica defeated Cayman’s Jack Lomax 6-2, 6-2.
The championships continue this morning at 9:00 with 24 matches to be played in all age groups for boys and girls.
