Quaynor knocks out second seed Hill in All-Jamaica Junior Tennis Championships
LOUIS Quaynor pulled off a major upset when he defeated second seed Daniel Hill in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the 18 and under boys’ singles quarter-finals of the 2016 Access Financial Services All-Jamaica Junior Tennis Championships at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre yesterday.
The unseeded Quaynor, who is based in England, will face third-seeded Kyle Martin in the 18 and under boys’ semi-finals today. Martin in his quarter-final yesterday beat unseeded Myles Harrison 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 (super tie-breaker).
Top seed Cliff Dwyer will face unseeded Luke Quaynor in his semi-final today after brushing aside Matthew Quaynor in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in his quarter-finals. Luke Quaynor had knocked out fourth seed Gregory Spencer in two sets 6-3, 6-1 in his quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, in the 18 and under singles for girls, top seed Emma Dibbs will face third seed Michaela Stephens in her semi-final. Dibbs defeated Savannah Hussey 6-1, 6-0, while Stephens beat Cobi Wilcott 6-4, 6-0.
Second seed Selena Blythe meet unseeded Raccine Malcolm in the other semi-finals. Blythe beat unseeded Olivia Simms 5-0 (retired in the first set), while Malcolm gained a walk over from fourth-seed Shaeda Nickle in their respective quarter-finals played yesterday.
The semi-finals of the 18 and under boys and girls, 16 and under boys and girls, 14 and under boys and girls, 12 and under boys and girls are scheduled to be played today, starting at 9:00 am.
