CLIFF Dwyer and Emma Dibbs are the top seeds in Boys’ and Girls’ 18 and under singles at the 2016 Access Financial Services All-Jamaica Junior Tennis Championships which begins today at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, Piccadilly Road, starting at 9:00 am.
The championships, which will be held through to Sunday, will see action in the 18 and under Boys’ and Girls’ singles, Boys’ and Girls’ 16 and under, Boys’ and Girls’ 14 and under, Boys’ and Girls’ 12 and under, and Boys’ and Girls’ 10 and under singles and doubles competitions.
Meanwhile, the other seeded players in the Boys’ 18 and under singles are Daniel Hill, seeded at number two, followed by Kyle Martin at three, and Gregory Spencer, seeded four.
In the Girls’ 18 and under singles, Selena Blythe is the number two, followed by Michaela Stephens at three, and Shaeda Nickle, seed at four.
The top seeds in the Boys’ 16 and under singles are Myles Harrison at number one, followed by Damani Cain at two, John Azar at three, and seeded at four is Karan Chatani.

Daniel Azar is seeded at number one in the Boys’ 12 and under singles, with Jordan Vaz seeded at two, Alexander Bicknell at three, and Keyondre Clarke seeded at four.
Last year’s defending champions for the respective age groups are Boys’ 18 and under Andrew Tom, who is not participating this year, Girls’ 18 and under – Emma Dibbs; Boys’ 16 and under – Cliff Dwyer; Girls’ 16 and under – Jenna Harrison; Boys’ 14 and under – John Azar Jr; Girls’ 14 and under Michaela Stephens; Boys’ 12 and under – John Chin; Girls’ 12 and under – Moesha Fox.
Meanwhile, Dwyer, who was runner-up last year in the Boys’ 18 and under singles won by Tom, should be the player to beat, but Hill, Martin and Spencer all have good chances of winning.
The Girls’ 18 and under singles should be quite interesting again this year, as Dibbs will be looking to retain her title but will have last year’s runner-up, Selena Blythe as her main challenger, while Michaela Stephens and Shaeda Nickle should have good chances.
It could be another match-up in Boys’ 16 and under with Dwyer and last year’s beaten finalist Myles Harrison, while in the Girls’ 16 and under, Selena Blythe will be coming to dethrone holder Jenna Harrison of the crown.
In the Boys’ 14 and under, defending champion John Azar Jr — fresh from his win in the 18 and under singles recently — should retain his title as last year’s runner-up, Ryan McCook will not be participating.
Tournament Director David Sanguinetti said the championships will have the best of the island’s junior players in action.
“They have all played against each other during several tournaments this year, but this is the big one. They will all be hunting for top glory as this is the major championships in their respective age groups,” Sanguinetti said.
