ARTISTIQUE jewellery by Dyhemmia Williams
Summer for most teens is all about self discovery, quite often unintentional but we always end up as completely changed individuals in some way or the other at the end of our time away from the classroom.
We at
teenAGE are also on a discovery, to source young people like you who are innovators, creative minds that gives us an opportunity to splurge in summer fashion the way we do now, because we have so many different choices.
21-year-old Dyhemmia Williams is the artist behind the ‘Artistique’ jewellery line and a second year art student at the Edna Manley College. Dyhemmia creates with Jamaica’s motto in mind: out of many one people. She embraces her Indian and Egyptian roots which serve as a major inspiration for what she creates.
“I’m fascinated by the Egyptian culture and civilisation and how industrial and innovative they were. Their intelligence and tactical skills were amazing and I started doing more research on them and during that process, I found myself and gained knowledge of self and decided to use the Egyptian’s culture as my muse”.
Dyhemmia also shared how she started Artistique from scratch, in the first year of college. “So I actually started my business my first year of college, when I noticed that my colleagues show interest when I wear my own jewellery”.
“I actually got in the jewellery business, summer of 2014 when I was job hunting and stumbled on a jewellery teacher opening an art studio. So I went home and played around with some coated copper wire and started to build a portfolio. So for all you young artists too scared to make a move, don’t be, because it really isn’t rocket science to start selling your own product. Dyhemmia encourages you all to take it one step at a time.
