RACERS GRAND PRIX: 16-y-o Christopher Taylor does not disappoint
KINGSTON Jamaica — Calabar’s young phenomenon Christopher Taylor had to settle for second behind Great Britain’s Delano Williams in the men’s 400m A race, at the inaugural Jamaica National Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Taylor, who has his sights set on making Jamaica’s team to the Rio Olympics in August, clocked 45.66 seconds a short while ago, behind Williams’ 45.50 seconds.
Jamaica’s Jonia McDonald (46.01s) was third.
Taylor, 16, ran a very conservative backstretch from lane four before taking aim at the leaders coming off the final curve, but his late burst of speed was not enough to get back to Williams who went out hard from lane six.
Taylor, the 2015 World Youth champion with a personal best of 45.27 seconds, has already gone below the A standard qualifying time of 45.40s and is now poised to take on the big boys at the National Senior Championships trials later this month.
