Junior tennis tourney serves off today
JAMAICA’S top junior players are expected to participate in the 2016 Liguanea Club Open Junior Tennis Tournament scheduled to take place at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston today and tomorrow commencing at 9:00 each day.
The championship is part of the Llockett McGregor Tennis Tournament Series and is expected to attract several of the country’s leading junior players to compete in their respective age groups and above.
Tournament director, Llockett McGregor, said the two-day event promises to be very exciting and keenly contested as “we look to see new winners emerging as part of the development of the sport”.
“We see this tournament as very important for the young players, as they will also prepare themselves to participate in the annual International Tennis Federation (ITF) Jamaica Invitational Junior Tennis Tournament to be staged here next month with the vast number of overseas players from many countries,” McGregor said.
He added that the tournament will be singles only played in age groups, boys 18 and under, 16 and under, 14 and under, 12 and under, while the girls will be played in two 16 and under and 14 and under.
Top seed in the boys 18 and under singles is Daniel Hill, followed by second seed Jason Lawson, Gregory Spencer at three and Daniel Azar seeded four.
Daniel Cain is the top seed in the Boys 16 and under singles, followed by Karan Chatani at number two, Tariq Simon at three and Ruben Pinchas seeded four.
In the Boys 14 and under singles, Daniel Azar is the top seed, followed by Cole McNab at two, Keyondre Clarke at three, and seeded four is Blake Shoucair.
Jordan Vaz is the top seed in the Boys 14 and under singles with Alexander Bicknell the second seed, followed by Matthew James at three and Kaiel Casserly seeded at four.
Meanwhile, in the girls 16 and under singles, Jenna Harrison is at one, Hayley McNair at two, Moesha Fox seeded three, and Marli Rowe seeded four.
In the girls 14 and under Gizelle Sang is at number one, Katherine Dibbs at number two, Mia Minott seeded three and Alyssa James seeded four.
Matches scheduled this morning begin at 10:00 am and will feature Shane Miller vs Nigel Stewart; Chad Charles vs Jaiden Finn; Keyvardo Malcolm vs Joshua Haye; AjanTrehan vs Ranouy Malcolm.
These matches will be followed by Gary Hunter vs Ruben Pinchas; Gabriel Todd vs David Seivright; Rhys Greenland vs Odane Hill; Jaheem Whyte vs Joshua Green.
