Corley ‘Chops’ down ‘Lion Heart’ Lake
Apparently Revlon “Lion Heart” Lake never saw it coming. And even if he did, he was was in no frame of mind to do anything about it after being crippled by a searching left. It was a curling right hook to the temple area that swept him off his feet and deposited him plumb on his backside to be counted out.
Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley, the former four-time world champion had made good on his promise to deliver the knockout punch. It came 55 seconds into the first round, a situation that saw Corley not even breaking a casual sweat. The audience, also, did not even get to see a full round of intended five-round bout in the Wray & Nephew White OverProof Rum Contender Boxing Series quarter-final match at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium on Wednesday night.
“I did not get a chance to do anything,” said Corley after ending Lake’s run in the 2016 Contender Series.
The victory pushed “Chop Chop” Corley into the final semi-final spot in the welterweight contest where he will now meet Michael “Wasp” Gardner.
Richard “Frog” Holmes, who scored a unanimous decision win against Iwan Azor, is to fight Tsetsi “Lights Out” Davis in the other semi-final. Davis carved an unattractive unanimous decision win against Charwin Estwick to book his spot.
The fight between “Chop Chop” Corley ended so swiftly that it did not give the audience a glimpse of what he had to offer.
The United States-based Corley promised to be at his very best when he returns to Jamaica for the semi-final.
“For the past four months I have been in camp and have not been home yet, and from here I am going straight back to the gym to prepare for a tough semi-final”, the veteran boxer said.
