THE American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AMCHAM) will be hosting the first viewing of the Jesse Owens biopic, Race, at the Courtleigh Auditorium, New Kingston, on Monday.
The event, sponsored by Proven Wealth Management Limited, is slated to start at 7:30 pm and is being held under the distinguished patronage of Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce.
“I am excited about AMCHAM’s support for the Pocket Rocket Foundation’s mandate to develop Brand Jamaica through education and sports,” said Fraser -Pryce about the event.
Race is a 2016 biographical sports drama film about African-American athlete Jesse Owens, who won a record-breaking four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
Directed by Stephen Hopkins and written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, the film stars Stephan James as Owens, and his brother Shamier Anderson as Eulace Peacock, Owens’ compatriot and arch-rival. The Scarborough, Canada-based siblings’ parents are from Spanish Town. The line-up includes Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt and Carice van Houten.
“Since the inception of her foundation, Fraser-Pryce, through initiatives such as this one, has been creating a lasting impact in the lives of student- athletes who would have also had the odds stacked against them,” said CEO of AMCHAM Gail Abrahams, as she expressed her delight in the visionary partnership.
“AMCHAM is excited to have Ambassador Fraser-Pryce on board with us for an event such as this. It is just one of many that we will partner with the Pocket Rocket Foundation on, to benefit education,” she added.
