Charles Mattocks’ Trial reaping rewards
A project born out of pain is reaping rewards for Emmy-nominated actor, Charles Mattocks.
Trial By Fire, a documentary inspired by his mother’s debilitating illness, won Best Documentary at the Charlotte Black Film Festival in North Carolina, held April 6 – 10.
Mattocks’s mother, Constance Marley, suffers from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). The film highlights her plight as well as that of other CRPS victims.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer, Mattocks said he is delighted with the documentary’s success.
“This was really unexpected as there were hundreds of entries, and to make the final cut was an honour. To win the category is completely magical,” he said.
Mattocks added that the recognition means the 54-minute film has made an impact.
“My dream has turned into something that changed lives. Although my mom is dealing with her pain issues, she is ecstatic about the win,” he said.
The sister of reggae legend Bob Marley, Constance Marley lives in Florida. She endures daily pain from CRPS which causes skin problems, swelling and in some cases, death.
This is the third award for Mattocks’ documentary. It was awarded Best Director and Most Impactful Topic in a Documentary at the Hollywood Florida Film Festival in February.
