Little-White sets sights on new project
FILM-MAKER Lennie Little-White said plans are underway for his latest production called It’s A Family Affair.
Slated to start in May, Little-White said the low-budget project is scheduled to take a few weeks to complete. It will be shot on location at Melia Braco Village in Trelawny.
“We will be completing it in a matter of weeks because we are working from a very tight budget. We are taking a leaf out of the Nigerian filmmakers’ book. Their films are very low-budget and filming is done over a very short period,” he told the
Jamaica Observer.
It’s a Family Affair surrounds a reunion at a hotel with family members from the United States, Britain, and Jamaica.
“It’s about the clashing of different cultures and the effect it can have on a family and society,” he said.
According to Little-White, the aim of the movie is to tell the story of Jamaica in a positive way and to show up-and-coming film-makers that they can create a quality product using a small amount of money and cast.
“There will be no scenes that involves guns, sex and ghettos. It’s a family-type film,” he said.
“We’ve always wanted to make Hollywood budget movie, but we don’t have that market in Jamaica. We don’t have those type of resources in Jamaica. The entertainers alone shows us that you can stay in Jamaica and make music using our own concept and spread it worldwide,” he said.
Auditions for the six-member cast is set to begin next week.
With over 40 years experience in the theatre and film-making arena, Little-White’s successful productions include television series
Royal Palm Estate and its off-shoot Meet the Blackburns,Glory to Glorianna (2006), and Children of Babylon (1980).
“I went into pre-retirement earlier, as sometimes you have to step back and allow the younger generation to take up the mantle. I just came back for a little while to lay the grounds for them to trod on, and that is to show them that we can earn big from the low-budget, high-quality productions,” he said.
