Bernard to step aside as Harbour View head coach
TUCKER, St James — Ludlow Bernard will not be the coach of Harbour View when the 2016-17 season gets under way in August he told the Jamaica Observer on Sunday, minutes after his team was beaten 0-2 by Montego Bay United in their final regular season game, at WesPow Park.
The loss was Harbour View’s 10th, matching their win total as they missed the semi-finals for the second season running, finishing sixth on 43 points, eight out of the last semi-final position held by Humble Lion.
“I am not sure if I would be here next season,” Bernard said in a post-match interview, noting his priority was with Kingston College in the ISSA Manning Cup schoolboy football competition.
“The plan was to be a filler, a band-aid,” said Bernard, who took over the team during the season. “My main focus will be on Kingston College in the Manning Cup.”
He said he would be meeting with the club’s management about his decision but said also there were people at the club who could replace him.“We have people here and even if I am around I will have to reconsider my position, but we have people, and we are well placed to move into the next season.”
Former players Ricardo Gardner, Donald Stewart and Fabian Taylor are the assistants to Bernard this season and took turns at leading the team during games while he served a four-game ban earlier in the season.
