Tivoli Gardens boot Cavalier out of RSPL
Tivoli Gardens FC knocked 10-man Cavalier SC out of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) 2015-2016 season with 1-0 win at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday.
Left-sided striker Andre McFarlane scored the killer goal in the 17th minute. It was a victory that pleased team coach Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey: “I must thank the players to respond so admirably to what I have brought back to the club. I was brought in to get the job done of stabilising team play and the players’ efforts are very well appreciated. The team should leave the field satisfied with a job well done and must use the moment to reflect and plan for a much better showing in the coming season.
“Having brought the team out of the wilderness I am officially retired once again and as of today I am fully back into the music. I have been doing a lot of work in the studio and I now want to give my full attention to that aspect of the business.”
Cavalier SC Head Coach Rudolph Speid, as expected, was disappointed after being kicked out of Premier League football for at least the next season. He was hopeful that the team’s return will be in the near future: “The truth is we have a very strong youth system and a strong club. We will be playing in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Super League next season and the fact that we have the pedigree to play in the Premier League we will be back.
“At present, we have a good crop of young players who we will definitely loan out to improve skills in the Premier League. From the remaining players, we will continue to rebuild a more capable squad with another good crop of young talent and will work towards our goal of returning to the Premier League.”
Looking at the manner in which he was dumped from first-class football, Speid said: “We gave away a soft goal and then missed a few chances with which we should have done better. That is the story of our season: missed chances that come back to haunt us.
“We also had an indifferent season where we had to play our last five games of the season away from home. It is the first time time I have ever seen this.” Speid observed.
