Beaches Negril on the hunt for last semi-final spot
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — Beaches Negril could secure the last spot in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League when they take on relegated Lucea FC in a rescheduled third-round game at the Long Bay Beach Park today, starting at 3:30 pm.
Beaches Negril, in the second season in the competition, are in fifth place on 25 points, three points behind fourth-placed Clark’s Town FC with whom they are tied on a goal difference of seven and must win the game if they are to advance.
Granville FC, Wadadah FC and Sandals Whitehouse have already secured places in the semi-finals set for April 10 and 17.
Anything but a win for Beaches Negril today would see Clark’s Town take the fourth spot and face Granville FC in the two-way semi-final play-off for a spot in the May 1 final.
Lucea FC, meanwhile, have little to play for as they have already been relegated for the second time in three seasons. They are in 11th place on nine points from their 15 games played so far.
Lucea FC join last season’s champions Savannah SC, Village United and Salt Marsh United as the relegated teams.
