WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Sandals Whitehouse secured their place in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League after a big 4-1 win over fellow semi-finalists Granville FC in Whitehouse on Tuesday in the final set of games in the third-round cross-zone stage.
Ackeem Shackleford scored a hat-trick for the Aaron Lawrence-coached Sandals Whitehouse who now join Granville FC and Wadadah FC in the semi-finals with one spot left to be filled.
Granville FC topped the points tables with 38 points after three rounds, despite going down to only their second loss of the season; Wadadah FC, who hammered Petersfield 7-0 at Jarrett Park, are in second place on 33 points and Sandals Whitehouse on 29 points.
Clark’s Town are currently in fourth place on 28 points, but could be passed by Beaches Negril if they beat Lucea FC in a rescheduled game. Beaches Negril are on 25 points and tied with Clark’s Town on goal difference of seven, so a win would see them advance to the semi-finals for the first time.
Meanwhile, Village United failed to stave off relegation for a third-straight year and joined Lucea FC, Savannah SC, and Salt Marsh United, as the teams that will return to parish football.
Sandals Whitehouse, who had a record of five wins and one draw in the third round, needed to win on Tuesday and Shackleford led the way with his hat-trick to take his talky to 13 goals since joining the club in the January transfer window.
Shackleford scored in the 18th minute to give Sandals the lead, but Garth Johnson scored his first goal in the 33rd minute to tie up the scores as the teams went to the half-time break at 1-1.
Leonardo Rankine scored in the 48th minute to restore the home team’s lead, while Shackleford then added goals in the 57th and 81st minutes to lead his team to the top four.
At Jarrett Park, Okeefe Brown and late second-half substitute Curtis Palmer both scored doubles for Wadadah FC in their biggest win of the season.
Brown scored in the ninth and 51st minutes, Palmer scored in the 82nd and 88th minutes, while Christopher Currie, Owen Roberts and Kemiro James all got one goal each for Wadadah FC, who finished with 36 goals scored, the most by any one team.
Village United and Montego Bay Boys Club who were well set after the first two rounds, but earned just three points in their last six games, drew 2-2 at Elleston Wakeland Centre, while Reggae Youths got points from Salt Marsh United who did not prepare their field for the game.
