Francophone Film Fest starts Wednesday
THE Francophone Film Festival kicks off at the University of the West Indies’ Mona campus on Wednesday.
The event is hosted by Alliance Francaise de la Jamaique, in association with the diplomatic missions of Belgium, Canada and France.
Stefane Daley, acting executive director of Alliance Francaise de la Jamaica, promises an exciting festival.
“The films are all high-quality that have won awards in film festivals worldwide. On some days, we will be including not only the films, but also French food tasting. Admission is free for all showings also,” she told the Sunday Observer.
A total of five films will be screened on Wednesdays and Saturday. Showtime is 7:00 pm.
The festival begins with the drama,Les Heritiers (Once in Life Time), followed by the comedyLes Rayures Du Zebre, on March 30.
On Saturday, April 2, it will be the Canadian documentary, 538xla, followed by Gabrielle that same night. The festival ends on April 6 with the drama Timbuktu.
Daley said the festival’s main objective is to expose Jamaican audiences to French culture.
“The aim of this festival is to have the Jamaican audience experience different parts of cinema. Jamaicans are accustomed to seeing the Hollywood films so we just want them to see how the French actors do it.”
