‘Tuffy’ to the rescue, but Waterhouse remain rooted to bottom
Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson, who has languished on the Waterhouse bench lately, was the hero for Waterhouse on Thursday evening when he scored the lone goal that gave his team a 1-0 win over champions Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
The win was the first for Waterhouse in the third and penultimate round of the four-round championship and fourth overall in the Red Stripe Premier League this season.
Even with the three points, the Drewsland team remains nailed to the bottom of the 12-team standings, and faces the prospects of relegation.
Despite the loss, Arnett stayed third with 50 points.
Waterhouse’s goal came six minutes before the end after Anderson, who had threatened earlier, collected a long ball deep in the Arnett Gardens half on the right, then jinked his way past a defender to unleash a left-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Peter Harrison, before he could react positively.
Arnett, who recently returned to the island from a successful campaign in one group of the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship, looked a jaded bunch, but had enough steam to threaten at times.
