Reno coach left fuming after Boys’ Town whipping
Two goals in a two-minute span propelled Boys’ Town to a 3-0 win over Reno in their rescheduled Red Stripe Premier League match at the Barbican Field yesterday.
Rafeik Thomas opened the scoring in the 26th minute before Michael Campbell’s shot deflected off the head of Jashane Foster in the 28th minute for an own goal. Peter Keys then nodded home in the 77th minute as Boys’ Town registered an easy victory.
The Red Brigades, with their ninth win from 28 games, jumped two places to seventh on 34 points and created some breathing space ahead of the relegation stragglers.
It was a totally different scenario for the Westmoreland-based Reno as they remained in 10th spot on 31 points, just four above the chasing Rivoli United on 27 points.
It was an uninspiring performance by Reno, who would have encouraged Rivoli United in their effort to avoid relegation.
Reno will now be looking nervously over their shoulders with five games remaining, and Head Coach Michael Graham could not hide his disappointment with his team’s pathetic display.
“I am very disappointed with all the players. We have players here who seem to don’t understand what it takes to win games at crucial points,” said Graham.
“We started out good and the success fly into people’s heads and they started losing their way. We try to get them back, but we fall off in the second round,” he lamented.
Graham, who used to terrorised defenders in his Reno playing days as an attacker, said his players looked good in training, but failed to deliver on match day.
“Rivoli is making some steady improvements and what we saw from Reno is very discouraging and we will have to go back and find out what is the real problem,” he added.
Meanwhile, it was a welcome result for Boys’ Town’s Andrew Price and he is now eyeing a semi-final play-off spot.
“To score three goals was very good… it was a very important game, probably the game of the season, and we really needed to get all three points. We came and worked diligently and got three points,” said Price.
