CONCACAF Champs: U-17 Reggae Girlz fall 2-3 to Costa Rica
St GEORGE’S, Grenada – Jamaica’s Under-17 Reggae Girlz suffered their second defeat in Group B of the CONCACAF Women’s Championships as they
went down 2-3 to Costa Rica here at Grenada National Stadium on Sunday.
Ebony Clarke (16th) and Tarania Clarke (36th) got the goals for the young Reggae Girlz, while Valeria Del Campo (29th), Mereilyn Alvarado (76th) and Maria Paula Salas (90th) were the scorers for Costa Rica.
The young Reggae Girlz ended with 10 players after substitute Alyssa Julien, who came on in the 55th minute, was wrongfully shown a caution in the 64th minute and was shown a second yellow in the the 70th
minute. The initial tackle was made by captain Rachel Walters.
Head coach Lorne Donaldson and his coaching staff protested the red card which only resulted in assistant coach Hubert Busby being removed from the bench by referee Sandra Benitez of El Salvador.
With the win, Costa Rica moved up to three points, while Jamaica remain at the foot of the four-team table without a point.
The two finalists and the third place team will advance to the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup to be staged in Jordan in September.
