Samuda, Newnham lead national golf trials
THE National Senior Trials teed off yesterday with some of Jamaica’s best golfers pitting their skills against each other at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Club. The top finishers in the day’s round for the Ramón Báez Romano competition are Owen Samuda with 76, tied in first position with Mark Newnham, while Sean Morris finished the day in third with 77.
For the Francis & Steele-Perkins (senior) competition, JGA Past President Wayne Chai Chong heads up the group with 75, followed by Robert Chin with 76, and Rory Jardine next with 78.
Sherold Philibert leads the senior super group with 76, tying with Easton Williams. George Hugh is third on 79.
For the ladies mid-amateur group, Murine Blake-Gordon finished with 84. In the senior ladies, Maggie Lyn ended the day with 80 strokes and Michele Gabay had 89.
The second round continues today.
Midpoint on the island, the first Junior Cup match will tee off at Caymanas with 59 juniors competing. The young golfers are from Kingston and St Andrew, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay.
