JLP takes four of five St James seats
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) took four of the five seats in St James, with only the outgoing Agriculture Minister Derrick Kellier holding on to his St James Southern seat.
Incumbent JLP candidates Dr Horace Chang was returned in the St James North West constituency, beating the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Anthony Henry, while Ed Bartlett defeated the PNP’s Noel Donaldson in the St James East Central seat. The JLP’s Heroy Clarke won the St James Central seat, defeating the PNP’s Ashley-Ann Foster, while the JLP’s Marlene Malahoo Forte beat the PNP’s Sharon Folkes Abrahams in St James West Central.
However, the JLP’s Homer Davis just failed to hold the PNP’s Kellier, who was winning the seat for the sixth time.
Last night, an elated Malahoo Forte told scores of supporters gathered at her constituency office in Catherine Hall that she was dedicating the victory to them.
“ This one is for you. I told you that I would have won and the victory was going to be for you,” she told the cheering Labourites.
She also thanked the supporters for their hard work, as well as former Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
