#DecisionJa2016: Strong JLP support in Treadways
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) have flocked the entrance of the McGrath High school in Treadways, a part of the St Catherine North West constituency where the incumbent Robert Pickersgill is up against former police officer Newton Amos.
One JLP supporter Andre Ward claimed that Pickersgill has neglected the constituency for many years.. “Pickersgill, the PNP MP of for the last 20 years, has not done a good job,” he said. He said that what has saved Pickersgill is the legacy of Jack Stephenson who contributed significantly to the development of the community of Treadways and surrounding communities.
However, PNP supporter Valmore Young said that the low turnout of PNP supporters in the morning session was because majority are working class people. “We’ll see more people as the day progresses. Most people are working now so they are waiting on their break. This is a norm over the years but the results have always shown a win at the end of the day for the PNP,” Young said.
