#DecisionJa2016: Street vendors cash in on election day
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Although several businesses, including bars, were closed for a portion of today’s general election, the street vendors are benefiting immensely.
Throughout each constituency, there are several juice and snack vendors peddling their goods on the sidewalks to party supporters.
“For me its not about the voting because I couldn’t care any less about either parties,” a food vendor in Mountain View told OBSERVER ONLINE. “It is about getting a sale. I have been looking forward for this day as no one is going to take the time out to cook so here I am preparing their meals.”
The vendor, who gave his name only as Steppa, admits to hiking the prices for today’s sales.
“Nah lie, me raise it up a bit but no one nah complain still,” he said.
Supporters of both the People’s National Party (PNP) and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) are jubilant and extremely confident that their candidate will emerge the victor.
