#DecisionJa2016: Slow turnout in Mavis Bank, St Andrew East Rural
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) supervisor for the Guava Ridge Community centre, Marcia Davis, says the turnout has been low so far this morning.
Three polling stations are located at the centre, which is in the Mavis Bank Division of St Andrew East Rural.
Davis told OBSERVER ONLINE that less than 50 people have voted since voting began at seven this morning, but said she is expecting things to “pick up” as the day progresses.
People’s National Party (PNP) candidate Imani Duncan-Price is up against the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Juliet Holness, wife of Opposition Leader Andrew Holness for the seat.
The JLP won that division in the 2011 general election, polling 1,963 to the PNP’s 1,498. However, the PNP went on to take the seat. The ECJ cited a voter turn out of 64.76 per cent.
