#DecisionJa2016: Polling ‘smooth’ at Gordon Town Community Centre
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — At least 200 people have already voted at the Gordon Town Community Centre in St Andrew East Rural, officials from the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) have said.
The voting process, which began at approximately 7:00 am here in the Gordon Town division, has been smooth OBSERVER ONLINE was told.
“They (people) have been working with me, doing what I say so everything is good,” said a Jamaica Constabulary Force officer, who declined to give his name.
In the division the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Damion Crawford was soundly beaten by the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Joan Gordon Webley in the 2011 General Election. Gordon Webley has since broken ranks with the party and has joined the PNP. Crawford polled 1,648 to Gordon Webley’s 2,186. A 63.54 per cent voter turnout was recorded by the ECJ.
The PNP’s Imani Duncan-Price is up against the JLP’s Juliet Holness, wife of party leader Andrew Holness, for the classic swing seat.
The seat is currently held by the PNP.
