#DecisionJa2016: PNP, JLP confident in Kingston East
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Sounds of vuvuzela horns, chants and cheers from people decked in orange or green are some of the sights and scenes that have now taken over several streets around Kingston and St Andrew as voters go to the polls in the nation’s 17th General Election.
“Portia, Mama P,” shouted People’s National Party (PNP) supporter Kevin White close to Norman Gardens Primary school, one of the polling stations located in the Kingston East and Port Royal constituency.
White made the comment metres away from where Kingston Mayor Angela Brown Burke stood talking to a group of supporters.
“I am happy with how things are progressing. We got this,” said Brown Burke, expressing confidence about her party’s chances.
But while she expressed confidence about a PNP victory, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters expressed similar sentiments.
“I am really confident about the JLP chances I believe the party will be victorious,” said Sabrina Umbersley standing on Jacques Road decked in full green and black stripes.
Phillip Paulwell, the incumbent, is being challenged by the JLP’s Headley Wilson.
