#DecisionJa2016: JLP supporters turn on taunting rastas in St Catherine
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A group of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters caused three rastafarians to beat a hasty retreat from the vicinity of the polling division at Phillipo Baptist Church in St Catherine Central after the dreadlocked men started shouting “fire bun fi all JLP and fi bun fi all all PNP”.
The angry JLP supporters ripped the banner from the Toyota Hiace bus in which the men were travelling and liquid was thrown on the vehicle. Another banner bearing the words ‘Time no longer JLP, PNP Referendum’ was spared a similar fate as the men quickly drove away as the tempers of the group of supporters flared.
The police, with gun drawn, went to the men’s rescue some minutes after the melee began but by this the rastafarian men were already getting ready to flee the area.
The crowd of supporters were converged along the roadway awaiting the arrival of the JLP incumbent Babsy Grange, who is staving off a challenge from the PNP’s Norris Grant in the St Catherine Central constituency.
