#DecisionJa2016: First-time voter hails NYS
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Admittedly, it was quite by chance that 20-year-old Manchester North West resident Rene became enumerated.
She told Observer ONLINE that she needed her national identification card for business purposes but since she had it, she decided to vote.
The Clarks Town resident cast her vote at New Green Primary and Junior High School.
Like many young people, she feels one area that the next Administration needs to work on is improving areas of education and providing more opportunities for employment.
She conceded that there are some provisions already in place to address youth unemployment, pointing to how her temporary job placement through the National Youth Service resulted in her permanent employment.
But more needs to be done, she said.
The People’s National Party’s Mikael Phillips, and the Jamaica Labour Party’s Omar Frith are the candidates for Manchester North Western.
