#DecisionJa2016: Comrades singing Spencer’s defeat
CLARENDON, Jamaica – “Ruddy Spencer lose!”
That is the refrain being sung by People’s National Party (PNP) supporters at Portland Cottage and St Peters Basic School in Clarendon South Eastern.
Spencer, the incumbent candidate representing the Jamaica Labour Party, is being challenged by Patricia Duncan Sutherland.
“Is a 2,000 [vote] landslide him a lose by,” one supporter shouted as the team entered the polling area.
“South East Clarendon a nuh JLP no more,” he continued.
Dancing to the PNP campaign jingle: ‘Moving on the new highway’, the Comrades contended that Spencer has done nothing for the constituency in his three terms.
JLP supporters, meanwhile, tried to explain away the obvious small number of their compatriots who were , saying their people had already voted and left the polling station.
In the last general election, 2011, Spencer defeated the PNP’s Dereck Lambert by 103 votes.
